Apple giving out patents to get their way?
Recently there have been some reports suggesting Apple is trying to push a new standard for "nano-SIM" cards. According to Reuters who reported back in May, Apple has even gone so far as submitting what they suggest to be new requirements to the ETSI (European Telecoms Standards Body). While Apple tries to push for this new standard, Motorola and Nokia are fighting for their own "nano-SIM" form factor as reported by Financial Times. According to Foss Patents, Apple is promising to license free of charge to competitors any Apple owned patents related to their version of "nano-SIM" to help bring people on board with what they believe should be the standard. Rivals appear to be more concerned that Apple will own the patents which could cost them royalties. If you think about it, smaller parts simply means the potential for smaller less bulky devices. I am on board with that! The meeting with ETSI is set to take place later this week, so we will see what starts to happen after! What do you think about this? What would you like to come out of this meeting? Please comment below and let us know your thoughts!
